Review of the Crochet Light Hook

This post is brought to you by An Amish Home, a novella anthology by Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Ruth Reid, and Kathleen Fuller. Click on the link to find out more.

I was in Hobby Lobby the other day (my home away from home) and I came across this:

The Crochet Light Hook

I’ve seen ads for these hooks on Facebook and I’d been contemplating getting them. I continued to stay on the fence for quite a while until I decided to take the plunge and purchase one. I needed an extra H hook anyway, so at the very least I have another crochet hook. At the very best I would be able to crochet in the dark—and who wouldn’t want to do that?

This hook has some pros and cons:

Pro #1: It’s comfortable to hold. It’s plastic with a thick, flat handle that’s surprisingly easy to crochet with.

Pro #2: The light does illuminate dark yarn, and it’s bright enough to definitely crochet in the dark. But that leads me to the big con:

Con #1: The light is WAY too bright. It’s also too concentrated. It takes practice to figure out how to use it with the light so you can actually crochet without going blind. This is a huge drawback for me, and I ended up turning it off and just using it as a regular crochet hook.

Con #2: The price. $5.59 is too high a price for a regular crochet hook, which is probably what I’ll be using it for.

Bonus Pro: if the electricity goes out I can use my crochet hook to find the bathroom. There’s always an upside.

If you’re interested in purchasing one of these, you can find them on Amazon or at your local Hobby Lobby (and also on their website). If you’ve used one of these, let me know what you think in the comments.

And the winner is…

Megan Potter! Megan won the Written in Love Prize pack. Congratulations, Megan.

A BIG thank you to all of you who entered. As for my answer–I love milk chocolate, but I try to eat dark chocolate more often. I’ve never met chocolate I haven’t liked. 🙂
